Kang, Women's Golf Still in First Heading Into Final Round at New Mexico State Intercollegiate

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Led by sophomore Jimin Kang, the seventh-ranked Arizona State women's golf team maintained their lead after Tuesday's second round at the Price's 'Give 'em Five' New Mexico State Intercollegiate, being held Mon.-Wed., Oct. 8-10 at the par 72, 6,119-yard University Golf Course.
ASU leads the field by four strokes over second-place Baylor (583) after shooting an eight-over 296 Tuesday for a two-day total of 583. New Mexico State (588), Oklahoma (590) and UCLA (598) round out the top five. The Sun Devils are looking to win their first tournament in over a year, with ASU's last win coming in the San Jose State Spartan Invitational in March of 2000.
Individually, Kang doubled her lead to four strokes and stands at five-under par 138 heading into the final round. A second-team All-Pac-10 selection last year, Kang finished under par for the second consecutive round with a one-under 71 on Tuesday and a two-day total of 138. Baylor's Nicole Johnson and Oklahoma's Lisa Meldrum trail Kang by four strokes with two-day totals of 142. If Kang holds on for the win, it would be the first individual title of her Sun Devil career.
All six Sun Devils are in the top 25 heading into the final round, including other Sun Devils are in the top 20 after the first round, including freshman Josefin Gustafsson who moved into a tie for ninth with a two-day total of 148 (73-75). Senior Lisa Meredith (72-77) and junior Blair O'Neal (76-73) are both tied for 13th at 149, while junior Gaï¿½lle Truet (71-80) and freshman Erin Tone (74-77), who is playing in the tournament as an individual, are tied for 21st with two-day totals of 151.
Wednesday's final round will begin with a shotgun start at 7 a.m. Mountain time.
