Oct. 10, 2001
CORVALLIS, Ore. - The California women's golf team shot a school record 54-hole total of 882 and won a tie breaker to repeat as Oregon State Invitational champions Wednesday at Trysting Tree Golf Course.
The Bears previous 54-hole program record was an 891 at the 2001 Pac-10 Championships.
Cal began the day in second place, seven strokes behind Arizona. The Golden Bears shot a 298, and the Wildcats carded a 305 to finish with the same final score as the Bears. The low fifth player's score in the final round determined the winner. The Bears fifth score was Anna Temple's 79, while the Wildcats' fourth and fifth scores were each 82s.
Stanford finished third with an 885, followed by Washington (897) and San Francisco (903).
Arizona's Lorena Ochoa won the individual title by nine strokes with a 206 (72-67-67). Cal senior Anne Walker and sophomore Sarah Huarte tied for second with Stanford's Kim Kouwabunpat with a 215. Both athletes broke junior Vikki Laing's previous school record of 216, set at last year's conference meet. Walker fired a personal best of 69 in the final round and Huarte shot a 73.
Up next for Cal is the Stanford Intercollegiate, Oct. 19-21.
