Women's Golfers Finish 5th at NMSU Invitational

The UCLA women's golf team finished in a tie for fifth place at the New Mexico State Invitational Wednesday. The event was played at NMSU's Championship Course.
The Bruins posted a final round team score of 293, five-over par, for a 54-hole total of 891. They finished seven shots behind fourth place New Mexico State. Arizona State and Baylor tied for first place at 870, followed by Oklahoma at 881.
Individually for the Bruins, sophomore Melissa Martin tied for sixth place at 218, two-over par. She played the final 36 holes in two-under par, posting a pair of 71s Tuesday and Wednesday. Senior Alicia Um tied for 15th at 224, eight-over par. Sophomore Gina Umeck shot a final round 73 and tied for 25th 227. Freshmen Charlotte Mayorkas and Yvonne Choe tied for 38th at 230 and sophomore Kristin Thompson, playing as an individual, tied for 48th at 233.
Arizona State's Jimin Kang won the event with a 54-hole total of 205, 11-under par. Oklahoma's Lisa Meldrum finished second at 213, three-under, and Baylor's Nicole Johnson place third at 214.
