Women's Soccer Opens Pac-10 Play Against No. 17 Cal, No. 9 Stanford

Oregon (6-2-1, 0-0-0 Pac-10) opens conference play Friday against No. 17-ranked California (8-2-1) at Pape' Field at 3 p.m. On Sunday, the Ducks play host to No. 9 Stanford (7-1-0) at 1 p.m. Sunday marks Oregon's sixth straight home game. The Ducks are already one win away from tying the single-season school record of seven, set in 1999.
COACH BILL STEFFEN
Bill Steffen is in his sixth year as the Ducks' coach and has directed Oregon since the program's inaugural season in 1996. He has a 33-63-8 record in six years. In 1999, the Ducks finished with a 7-11-1 mark-the best record in school history.
SERIES VS. CALIFORNIA
The Golden Bears lead the series 4-0. Last year, Oregon ended its season at Berkeley with a 4-0 loss to No. 8-ranked California. Lucie Brining scored the Bears' first goal in the third minute on a cross from Regina Holan, who had three assists in the match. Krysti Whalen (26th minute), Kathleen Cain (75th) and Lee Ann Mouton (79th) also scored goals for California. Julie McLellan led Oregon with three shots. California outshot Oregon 18-4 in the match. Oregon has scored just one goal in the series (1998).
SERIES VS. STANFORD
Stanford also leads the series with Oregon 4-0. In last season's match, Marcie Ward scored two goals in the first 10 minutes to lead 15th-ranked Stanford to a 4-0 win over Oregon. Ward tallied an unassisted goal on a breakaway in the seventh minute. Less than two minutes later, Ward scored on assists from Marcia Wallis and Amy Sauer. Wallis then scored in the 31st minute on a pass from Ward. Brittany Oliveira had the match's final goal in the 66th minute. Ann Westermark led the Ducks with three shots. Stanford outshot Oregon 15-5. The Ducks haven't yet scored a goal in the series.
