PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Washington junior Darija Klaic advanced to the qualifying round in both the singles and doubles competitions before losing Wednesday in the All-American Women's Championships at the Riviera Tennis Club.

Wednesday featured the qualifying rounds, in which the winners advanced to the main draw of the All-American Championships that begin Thursday. Klaic fell one round short of the main draw, losing her qualifying match in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2 to Luana Magnani of USC.
Klaic and sophomore Claire Carter teamed up to reach the qualifying round of doubles with an 8-3 decision over California's Carla Arguelles and Raquel Kops-Jones on Wednesday. They opened the doubles competition Tuesday with an 8-5 first-round victory over Joanne Masongsong and Kaysie Smashey of Texas. The Husky tandem, ranked No. 17 nationally, lost a hard-fought qualifying match Wednesday to Duke's Julie DeRoo and Kelly McCain by an 8-6 tally.
Another UW doubles team, sophomore Erin Hoe and junior Erin Gray, were defeated 8-4 in the first round Tuesday by the Duke duo of Susie Abromeit and Amanda Johnson.
Carter, who is ranked 20th nationally, is entered in the singles main draw that begins Thursday at the Riviera Tennis Club. She is slated to meet Georgia's Agata Cioroch in the Oct. 11 at the Riviera Tennis Club.
