Women's Tennis All-American Championship Results
Oct. 11, 2001
PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. -- USC women's tennis was eliminated from the Riviera All-American Championship today with two singles losses and a loss in doubles in the opening round of main draw competition.
One of the brightest spots for the Trojans throughout the tournament has been the play of freshman Luana Magnani. After winning her sixth match in five days and making it through the prequalifying and qualifying rounds to reach the main competition, Magnani was forced to retire Thursday's match due to an injury she sustained on Wednesday. She completed her tournament run in the middle of a 6-2, 3-2 match against Kelly McCain of Duke.
Magnani and doubles partner Anita Loyola were also forced to withdraw from the doubles tournament.
15th-ranked Jewel Peterson, who received an automatic bid into the tournament, was defeated by No. 4 seed Nataly Cahana of Old Dominion in a close two-set match, 7-5, 7-6 (6).
In doubles competition, fourth-seeded Peterson and Tiffany Brymer fell to unseeded Helen Lawson and Renate Stoop of Boise State, 8-1.
Following are Thursday's results.
