Lawrence Leads Beavers To 3-0 Win Over Idaho State
Oct. 13, 2001
POCATELLO, Idaho - Allison Lawrence had a career-high 12 kills to lead the Oregon State volleyball team to a 3-0 non-conference win over Idaho State on Saturday. Game scores were 30-24, 30-14 and 30-27.
The win improves OSU's record to 12-4, while Idaho State dropped to 6-11.
'This was a really important win for us,' said coach Nancy Somera. 'We're 12-4 heading into the second half of Pac-10 play, and that puts us in a good spot as we look for an NCAA Tournament bid.'
Lawrence, a true freshman, hit .400 for the match and registered double-figures for the first time in her college career. Her previous best was eight, which she did twice - in the two matches prior to Saturday's match against the Bengals. She also had two blocks against ISU.
Gina Schmidt and Megan McMillan also posted double figures for kills, with each finishing with 10 kills apiece. Michele Solomon was errorless, hitting .467 with seven kills in 15 attempts to go along four blocks.
Jessica Papell had a match-high 15 digs to lead the Beaver defense, which outdug the Bengals, 41-39. Schmidt, who needed 10 digs to reach 1,000 for her career, fell just shy of the millenium mark by recording eight digs on the night, second best on the team.
Idaho State's Joy Deatherage led all players with 16 kills, while teammate Melanie Tucker had the only double-double of the night with 14 kills and 10 digs.
