Women's Tennis Eliminated From Doubles Contention

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Stanford's remaining two doubles teams were eliminated from contention over the weekend at the Riviera Women's All-American Championships at Pacific Palisades.
The top Cardinal duo of Lauren Kalvaria (Indialantic, Fla.) and Gabriela Lastra (Reno, Nev.) was upset in Saturday's semifinal match against Florida's Lindsay Dawaf and Jessica Lehnhoff. The Gator's top pairing upended the senior duo from Stanford 8-6, ending this year's tournament run for the No. 7-ranked doubles team in the nation. Kalvaria and Lastra had previously defeated Wake Forest's Bea Bielik and Janet Bergman 3-0, ret., in the quarterfinals Friday afternoon.
Stanford's other doubles team entered in the main draw- sophomore Lauren Barnikow (Woodbridge, N.J.) and freshman Erin Burdette (Ojai, Calif.)- dropped an 8-6 decision Friday to Fresno State's team of Kim Niggemeyer and Simone Jardim, the No. 1 doubles team in the nation. Barnikow and Burdette are currently ranked No. 16 in the preseason rankings.
The next action for the Cardinal takes place Friday, Oct. 26, when Stanford will host the ITA Regional Championships.
