Notes on ASU Volleyball:
Arizona State enters this week's Pac-10 matches at Oregon and Oregon State with a 5-9 record and 1-6 mark in Pac-10 play... the Sun Devils have lost six straight matches, dating back to a 3-2 loss to Oregon State on Sept. 22... ASU has not lost in Eugene since a 3-1 setback in 1990... ASU is 3-1 in Corvallis dating back to 1997... the six-match losing streak is the longest for the program since losing six consecutive back in 1997... the Sun Devils were swept by the Washington Huskies and Washington State Cougars last weekend... the sweep marked the first time since 1997 that ASU had been swept at home in a Pac-10 weekend by schools other than USC or UCLA... it marked the first time since 1996 the Washington schools left Tempe with a sweep... in comparison to the 2000 season after 14 matches, ASU was 10-4, compared to this year's mark of 5-9... despite the dismal weekend, ASU had several solid performances... sophomore setter Cheryl Anglin passed the 2,000 career assist mark with 113 combined between the two matches... her 61 assists vs. Washington was a season-high and it was her 10th career 60+ assist match... sophomore outside hitter Kim Mehlhorn bested her career high in kills for the fourth and fifth times in 2001... the athletic outside hitter logged 18 vs. Washington and 19 vs. Washington State... sophomore Courtney Blocher saw her first extended action at opposite hitter vs. Washington State, contributing five kills and her first career solo block (she is only 5-7)... senior Jami Coughlin added her ninth and tenth double-doubles of the year over the weekend... Coughlin had a 16-kill, 19-dig night vs. the Huskies and added 15 kills and a season-high 21 digs against the Cougars... Coughlin is leading ASU with a 3.54 kill per game average and continues to lead the Pac-10 with 4.19 digs per game... she continues to inch up the ASU and Pac-10 career record books, now ranked fourth in Sun Devil volleyball history with 1,343 career digs and eighth with 1,221 career kills.
Pac-10 Player of the Week Nomination:
Julia Leddy (MB, Jr., Mesa, Ariz.): Leddy had an amazing weekend on the court in the two losses to Washington and Washington State... Leddy combined to average 4.25 kills per game over the two matches and 0.88 blocks per game... Leddy set a career high with 23 kills against Washington, hitting .500 (23-2-42)... Leddy added 11 kills and a career-high seven digs the next night in a 3-1 loss to Washington State... for the year, Leddy is second on the team with 2.80 kpg, second with 0.74 blocks per game and is leading the team with a .356 hitting percentage... the product of Mesa's Mountain View High School has logged eight matches with 10 or more kills and 25.0 points earned against the Huskies is tied with Coughlin for a season high by a Sun Devil.
