Western Washington, UCLA Come Calling On Men's Soccer This Weekend
Oct. 16, 2001
CORVALLIS, Ore. - - OSU comes home to Lorenz Field at Valley Stadium for a non-conference match with Western Washington on Friday, Oct. 19 at 1 p.m., followed by a tilt with Pac-10 rival UCLA on Sunday at 12 noon.
After OSU's narrow 2-1 defeat at the hands of No. 7 Washington, in which three Beaver shots hit the crossbar in the final minutes Saturday, the Beavers feel they are now playing their best soccer of the season and are on the verge of great things.
'We hit the bar three times against Washington and sent four shots right at the keeper,' OSU head coach Dana Taylor said. 'The guys have been working hard this year, and I'm very proud of the progress they've made so far. They're playing with a lot of confidence and moving the ball well as a team.
'As (Washington coach) Dean Wurzburger said after our game, 'I can't believe your record is 3-6. You guys play like you're 6-3.'
'We've been on the end of lots of things this year. We were close at Washington - we hit the bar with 15 seconds left. This team is definitely coming to form.'
