Oct. 19, 2001
EUGENE, Ore.-Arizona women's volleyball head coach David Rubio won his 100th career Pac-10 conference match Friday as the seventh-ranked Wildcats handed the Oregon Ducks a three-game defeat at McArthur Court in Eugene. As a team, Arizona totaled a hitting percentage of .420 to take the match with scores of 30-20, 30-21 and 30-14.
The milestone win for Rubio is yet another for the coach who, in nine years at the helm of the Arizona program, has taken the Cats from the abyss of a winless Pac-10 season before taking over in 1992 to the pinnacle of a conference championship last season. Earlier this month, Rubio won his 300th career match.
Senior middle blocker Erin Sebbas and senior opposite hitter Jill Talbot led the Arizona attack Friday by posting individual hitting percentages of .556 and .615, respectively. Talbot committed only one hitting error in 13 attempts, while Sebbas totaled seven kills in nine attempts. Anchoring the Wildcat offense was senior All-American setter Dana Burkholder, who tallied 39 assists.
With the victory, Arizona improves to 12-3 and 7-3 in Pac-10 Conference play on the year. The Wildcats are back in action Saturday evening as they travel to Corvallis, Ore., to take on the Oregon State Beavers at 7 p.m.
