The Rankings
USC remains No. 3 in this week's USA Today/AVCA Coaches poll and the Volleyball magazine poll. Long Beach State and Nebraska, both of whom USC will not face in the regular season, hold onto the No. 1 and 2 spots on the charts.

Olsovsky Again Named Pac-10 Player of the Week
Katie Olsovsky has been named the Pac-10 Player of the Week (Oct. 22) for the second consecutive week. Olsovsky played a pivotal role in USC's victories over 14th-ranked Pepperdine and fifth-ranked UCLA. For the weekend, she hit .511 with 24 kills (2.67 kpg) and just one error in 45 attempts. Olsovsky also added 21 digs (2.33 dpg) and 14 blocks (1.56 bpg). Against Pepperdine, Olsovsky led the Trojans in all three categories with 14 kills, 11 digs and five blocks. She accounted for a .636 hitting percentage thanks to an error-free performance (14-0-22). In the win over UCLA, Olsovsky fell one block short of a triple-double with 10 kills (.391), 10 digs and 9 blocks. Her nine blocks against the Bruins tied a career high. This is the second straight week Olsovsky has earned the honor after being named conference and national Player of the Week on Oct. 15. It is the third weekly honor in Olsovsky's career, USC's 27th such honor all-time.

**Olsovksy is only the second player in Pac-10 history to win the honor in back-to-back weeks (USC's Jennifer Kessy was the first to do so in October, 1998).**

Recent Matches
vs. No. 14 Pepperdine
-- With a near-flawless effort from Katie Olsovsky, USC posted a 3-1 (25-30, 30-24, 30-20, 30-18) victory over No. 14 Pepperdine in front of 461 at the Lyon Center on Oct. 16. Olsovsky managed to hit .636 on the night with 14 kills and no errors. She also led the team with 11 digs (ties a career high) and five blocks. USC had five players finish in double figures, including Alicia Robinson and April Ross who also contributed 14 kills apiece. As a team, USC hit .319 (72-20-163) on the night and recorded 13.0 blocks - outdoing the Waves at the net by a 9.0 margin. Pepperdine had an edge in the backrow by posting 61 digs to the Trojans' 54.

vs. No. 5 UCLA -- USC battled back from a 0-2 deficit to defeat the fifth-ranked UCLA Bruins 3-2 (25-30, 28-30, 30-21, 30-22, 15-11) in front of an enthusiastic crowd of 2,452 at Pauley Pavilion on Oct. 19. The victory completed a two-match sweep over the Bruins this season and marked USC's first season sweep over UCLA and first win in Westwood since 1998. Despite a slow start, the Trojans posted impressive numbers against the Bruins. USC outdid UCLA in kills (80 to 70), attack percentage (.296 to .179), digs (72 to 70) and blocks (15.0 to 11.0). The team saw career-best performances from Alicia Robinson with 20 kills (.244) and eight blocks and Katie Olsovsky, who tied her personal best with nine blocks in addition to 10 kills (.391) and 10 digs. April Ross led all players with 21 kills.

Trojans On 13-Match Win Streak
The Trojans have currently won 13 straight matches since suffering their only loss of the season on Sept. 2 against Wisconsin. USC is one win away from matching last year's streak of 14 set between Sept. 1 and Oct. 12, 2000. The program record was set during the 1976 through 1978 seasons when the Trojans won 56 straight matches.

USC Sets Home Match Win Streak
With its home victory over UCLA on Sept. 21, USC set a new record for consecutive home wins (20)... and is still growing. To date, the Trojans have won 25 consecutive matches at home, starting with a 3-0 win over Rhode Island on Sept. 6, 2000. USC's previous record was 19 straight home victories set between Sept. 25, 1976, and Oct. 19, 1978.

Game Win Streak Broken
Against Stanford on Oct. 12, the Women of Troy dropped the first game 30-28, their first game loss since losing the deciding game to No. 7 Wisconsin on Sept. 2. Prior to Stanford, USC had won nine consecutive matches by 3-0 scores (27 straight game victories). Last season, the Trojans set the all-time record by winning 38 straight games to begin the season.

Lexus Gauntlet Challenge
By sweeping the Bruins this season the USC volleyball team earned the Trojans' first 10 points in the Lexus Gauntlet Challenge between the two crosstown rivals. This unique program will award points for the winner of each Bruin-Trojan head-to-head athletic contest throughout the year and the Lexus Gauntlet trophy will be awarded to the school with the most points at year's end.

**The Trojans' win at Pauley Pavilion was their first since 1998 when USC also earned a five-game victory. This is also the first time the Trojans have swept the Bruins in the regular season since 1998 - a feat which now has only happened five times in program history (2001, 1998, 1997, 1982, 1977).**

Arizona Connections
This week's trip to the state of Arizona marks a homecoming for freshmen Alicia Robinson and Emily Adams, who both grew up in Phoenix. Robinson prepped at Central High and was the 2000 Arizona Gatorade Player of the Year. Adams prepped at Xavier College Prep where she was the 4A-5A Arizona Player of the Year as a senior. The two were club volleyball teammates throughout high school. They are the daughters of some well-known former Phoenix Suns, Truck Robinson and Alvan Adams, respectively.

USC Leads NCAA In Assists Thanks To Setting Duo
As of Oct. 15, the Trojans led the nation in team assists with a 16.10 assist per game average. Ironically, the Women of Troy don't have a setter ranked in the Top 25 nationally or even among the Top 5 in the Pac-10. This is because USC uses two setters. Running a 6-2 offense, the Trojans boast the talent of both Toni Anderson and Tracy Lindquist. The two see equal time on the court and, while they sacrifice individual accolades, together they lead the nation's No. 3 team. Anderson and Lindquist average 8.62 and 5.98 assists per game, respectively.

Trojans Find Ace In Davis
Defensive specialist Nicole Davis has a killer serve... and no team knows that better than Stanford. Davis collected seven service aces against the Cardinal, including six in the first two games. The mark falls just one ace shy of the USC record and ranks Davis' performances fifth in the record books (there is a four-way tie for first place with eight aces in a match). On the year, Davis has 17 aces and averages 0.33 aces per game.

Stopping the Attack
USC has held opponents this season to a .156 average attack percentage. Arizona and Stanford are the only opponents this season to hit above .200 when the Wildcats managed to hit .305 on Sept. 29 and the Cardinal hit .278 on Oct. 12. The Trojans dominate at the net overall by out-hitting opponents .316 to .156 (17.69 to 13.65 kills per game), out-blocking opponents by a 1.34 margin and forcing 7.3 opponent attack errors per game. USC leads the league in attack percentage and ranks second in opponent attack percentage.

**The Trojans also lead the Pac-10 in assists (16.10 apg), kills (17.69 kpg) and won-lost percentage (.933).**

Women's National Team before joining the Trojans. At the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, he led the United States to an unexpected fourth-place finish. Haley coached Texas for 17 seasons (1980-1996) and led the Longhorns to two national championships. He owns a 536-138-1 (.795) Division I career record and a 787-189-1 (.806) overall mark.

Opponent Notes

No. 7 Arizona (13-3, 8-3 Pac-10) -- Arizona is riding a five-match win streak which has helped the Wildcats jump back into the conference race. Arizona is currently third (behind USC and Stanford) after sweeping the Oregon schools last week. Its three Pac-10 losses have come at the hands of UCLA (3-0), Stanford (3-2) and USC (3-0). As a team, the Wildcats rank second in the Pac-10 in attack percentage (.308) and third in assists (15.13), kills (17.02) and service aces (1.85). Lisa Rutledge leads the team in kills (4.46 kpg), while Stefani Saragosa is tops with 1.11 blocks per outing.

It took powerful offensive performances from the entire rotation for the Trojans to earn the sweep over the Wildcats. The team posted a .450 attack effort and five players finished above .400 on the night. April Ross led both teams with 16 kills and hit at a .500 clip. The rest followed her lead as Alicia Robinson (15 kills, .560), Keao Burdine (13 kills, .500), Jennifer Pahl (6 kills, .455) and Lauren Killian (6 kills, .400) all played a crucial role in the victory. The Wildcats hit .305 for the match, while adding 52 kills and 32 digs.
