Bruins Looking to Pickup Two Conference Wins This Weekend . . .
UCLA takes a perfect 3-0 Pac-10 record into games with Oregon and Oregon State this weekend. On Friday, UCLA will face Oregon at 3:00 p.m. in Eugene. The Bruins are 3-1 all-time against the Ducks, winning 8-0 in their last meeting (10/15/00). On Sunday, UCLA will take on Oregon State at 2:00 p.m. The Bruins are 5-1 against the Beavers, having won the last five meetings, including a 3-0 decision last year.
UCLA Downs USC, 2-1 in Battle of Los Angeles . . .
UCLA came back from a one-goal deficit to defeat crosstown rival USC, 2-1 last Sunday at Drake Stadium. Staci Duncan and Mary-Frances Monroe scored both UCLA goals as the Bruins improved to 9-2-1 overall and 7-0 at home against the Women of Troy.
Bruins Drop First Match of the Season at Santa Clara . . .
UCLA tasted defeat for the first time this season on Oct. 18, dropping a 3-0 road decision to No. 3 Santa Clara. Santa Clara's Aly Wagner assisted on one goal and scored two of her own, as the Broncos took their third-straight victory over the Bruins. It was the first match UCLA has been shutout in since Nov. 3, 2000.
Bruins Chasing Best Record in Program History . . .
At 12-1 with just six regular-season matches remaining, UCLA has positioned itself to have one of its finest seasons ever in terms of total victories and winning percentage. UCLA's best season was in 1997 when the Bruins finished 19-3 overall, however fell to Notre Dame in the NCAA Quarterfinals. In 2000, UCLA also finished with 19 victories, but also had four losses and one tie, reaching the NCAA Championship match. Including the postseason, UCLA has a chance to win 20 matches this season, the first time in program history.
UCLA Against the NSCAA Top-25 . . .
UCLA is 3-1 against teams ranked in the NSCAA Top-25. The Bruins started the season with a 1-0 win over then-No. 3 Portland at the Fila Classic in Fullerton. Following that match, UCLA registered wins over No. 22 William & Mary and No. 25 Princeton at the UCLA Women's Cup. The Bruins were beaten by No. 3 Santa Clara in a road match on Oct. 18.
Bruins Fall in National Polls . . .
Following its loss to Santa Clara last week, UCLA switched places with the Broncos in the NSCAA poll, coming in at No. 3 this week. The Bruins fell two spots to No. 4 in the weekly poll issued by Soccer America. In addition to UCLA, three other Pac-10 teams are ranked in the NSCAA Top-25 (#6 Stanford, #16 Washington and #22 Cal).
