UW Men's Tennis to Compete at ITA Regional Championships

SANTA CLARA, Ca. - The Washington men's tennis team will compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Regional Championships beginning Friday, October 26 and concluding with the championship matches in both singles and doubles on Monday, October 29.
Six members of the team are set to face the toughest opponents in the region, with only Matt Hanlin and Matt Leon out due to injuries. Three freshmen will compete in their first action as Huskies. Scott Felsenthal, Pete Scharler and Alex Vlaski will go head to head with opponents from St. Mary's and Nevada-Reno, respectively, while Vlaski has a bye in the first round.
In doubles action, the Huskies will once again pair Ari Strasberg and Dillon Ruby together to face the winner of the Fuller/Pires de Almeida vs. Illic/Sinn match. The duo finished last season with an 18-14 overall record in the No. 2 slot. All three Husky teams have a bye in the first round.
The ITA National Championships will be held in Dallas, Texas on November 8-11. The Huskies open their regular season on January 25, 2002 with a home match against Portland.
