Oct. 26, 2001
STANFORD, Calif. - Junior Johanes Maliza (Chicago, Ill.) opened the scoring for the Cardinal tonight en route to a 4-0 victory over Oregon State at Maloney Field. Stanford improves to 12-1-0 on the season, 2-1 in the Pac-10, while the Beavers fall to 5-7-0, 1-2 in the conference.
The Cardinal put the first point on the board after Roger Levesque (Portland, Maine) sent the ball to Derek Shanahan (S. Charles, Ill.) who found Maliza in front of the goal. Maliza lifted the ball over the Oregon State keeper to score at 8:47.
Junior Taylor Graham (Fair Oaks, Calif.) tallied his first goal of the season at 32:03. Freshman Darren Fernandez (Benoni, South Africa) is credited with the assist after Graham headed the ball past Peter Billmeyer in goal. Shanahan then tacked on the third goal of the game off a pass from Levesque at 37:55. Stanford out-shot the Beavers in the first half 10-3 en route to a halftime lead of 3-0.
Junior Todd Dunivant (Wheat Ridge, Col.) added the fourth goal at 53:47 on a penalty kick to give the Cardinal the 4-0 victory.
The Cardinal returns to Maloney Field this Sunday, as the men and women of Stanford host another double-header. The first kick for the men is set for 2:30 p.m. against the eighth-ranked Washington Huskies.
