Oct. 27, 2001
The University of Arizona men's and women's swimming teams held its annual intrasquad pentathlon today. Both the men's and women's teams were split in two and competed against one another. The meet was a chance for the Cats to participate in a meet situation before the season opens next week.
On the women's side senior Beth Botsford looked strong as she was the winner of two events, the 100 fly (45.21) and the 100 back (55.29). Fellow senior Sarah Tolar also had a strong showing as she touched the wall first in the 100 free at 50.76.
For the Arizona men senior Kristopher Souther took first place in the 100 back with the time of 51.62. Junior Jeff Dash was the top finisher in the 100 fly (50.88) and sophomores Eric la Fleur and Greg Owen placed first in the 100 free (46.84) and 100 breast (58.61), respectively.
The Wildcats will open the 2001-02 season at home next week against the Badgers of Wisconsin. The meet will be held on Friday at the Hillenbrand Aquatic Center and will begin at 2 p.m.
