UW's Vlaski Advances to Quarterfinals of ITA Regional Championships

SANTA CLARA, Ca. - Washington men's tennis player Alex Vlaski advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITA Regional Championships Saturday afternoon with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 win over Stanford's Carter Morris in the round of 16. In the round of 32 Vlaski defeated Patrick Briaud of Cal, 6-3, 7-6 (6).
Washington also has two duos playing in the quarterfinals of doubles action. Dillon Ruby and Ari Strasberg teamed up to take care of Bedilion/Chen of SCU, 9-7. Freshmen partners Pete Scharler and Vlaski were also victorious in their round of 16 match, defeating King/Paalberg of Oregon, 8-4.
Earlier in the morning during the round of 32, both Strasberg and Scharler won their matches to continue to the next round. Scharler's opponent, Dietrich Haug of Pacific withdrew because of an injury to give him the automatic win. Phil Sheng of Stanford could not keep a hold on Strasberg as the Husky defeated him in two sets, 6-4, 7-5.
Singles will resume Sunday morning beginning at 9 a.m., followed by the semifinals in the afternoon. Doubles play will also begin tomorrow morning, with both singles and doubles championship matches on Monday, time TBA.
