Men's Tennis Senior Andrew Park Falls In ITA Quarterfinal

MALIBU, Calif. -- USC's Andrew Park was eliminated from the 2001 Omni Hotels ITA Region VIII South Championship main draw with a quarterfinal loss on Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center in Malibu.
No. 3 seed Park fell to Tobias Clemens of UCLA 6-4, 7-5 in this afternoon's quarterfinal. Clemens was then defeated in the semifinals by teammate Marcin Matkowski (6-3, 2-6, 6-3) who will face Stefan Suter of Pepperdine on Sunday in the main draw championship match.
In consolation play, the Trojans' Ruben Torres climbed his way into the championship match with two wins on Saturday. After a two set win in the first round and a bye in the second, Torres defeated ASU's Pim VanMele (2-6, 6-2, 10-7) and UC Irvine's Sean O'Connor (6-4, 6-2) in quarterfinal and semifinal matches. Torres will face UCLA's Lassi Ketola in the consolation singles championship match on Sunday at 1 p.m.
