UW's Vlaski Falls in Semifinals of ITA Regional Championships

SANTA CLARA, Ca. - Washington men's tennis player, Alex Vlaski, advanced to the semifinals of the ITA Regional Championships and was defeated by Stanford's Ryan Haviland in two sets, 6-1, 6-4. The tournament was an impressive debut for the freshman who earlier in the day posted a 6-1, 6-3 win over Portland's Travis Parrott in the quarterfinals.
Nick Weiss, a sophomore out of Santa Monica, Calif. continued his run in the tournament with a 6-4, 7-6 (5) win over Rick Ruso of SCU in the quarterfinals of consolation play. He also took care of Arturo Planell of SMC in the round of 16, 6-3, 6-2.
The Huskies also competed in doubles action, where both teams were defeated in the quarterfinals. Dillon Ruby and Ari Strasberg could not hang on as FSU's duo of Almada/Krohn defeated them, 8-5. Freshman tandem Vlaski and Pete Scharler were also defeated 8-5 by Lam/Ruso of SCU.
Tomorrow's championship match in singles play will put Ryan Haviland and Scott Lipsky, teammates out of Stanford, head-to-head. The Championship matches for both singles and doubles will be played Monday, beginning at 9 a.m. Consolation semifinals, along with the final match will begin Monday afternoon.
