Oct. 29, 2001
TUCSON, Ariz.- Arizona's sweeps over previously third-ranked USC and sixth-ranked UCLA made an obvious impression on the voting coaches in the latest edition of the AVCA/USA Today Poll. The Wildcats moved up three spots from seventh to fourth this week. The Cats now trail only top ranked Long Beach State, defending national champion Nebraska and conference foe Stanford in the national rankings. The Cats have won their last seven straight matches and stand at 15-3 overall for the season and 10-3 in the Pac-10.
For the ninth straight week, four Pac-10 teams are ranked among the top ten. Joining Stanford and Arizona are USC, who dropped to fifth after the loss to UA, and UCLA, who fell two spots to eighth.
The Wildcats, who also jumped five spots to fourth in the Volleyball Magazine poll, have only one match this week as they travel to Tempe for a match-up with rival Arizona State. First serve for the match is set for 7 p.m.
