The Facts
The No. 5 USC women's volleyball team (15-2, 9-1 Pac-10) looks to remain atop the Pac-10 standings as it hosts Washington (11-11, 4-9 Pac-10) on Friday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m. and Washington State (12-8, 7-6 Pac-10) on Saturday, Nov. 3, at 7:30 p.m. Both matches can be heard live on www.usctrojans.com. The Women of Troy are coming off a 3-0 (30-25, 30-15, 30-28) loss at then-ranked No. 7 Arizona on Thursday (Oct. 25) which put an end to the Trojans' 13-match win streak. On Friday (Oct. 26), USC returned to its winning ways with a 30-24, 30-24, 32-30 sweep at Arizona State.

The Rankings
With a loss against the Wildcats, USC dropped two spots in both polls this week. The Women of Troy are No. 5 in this week's USA Today/AVCA Coaches poll and the Volleyball magazine poll. Long Beach State and Nebraska, both of whom USC will not face in the regular season, hold onto the No. 1 and 2 spots on the charts, while Stanford and Arizona moved to No. 3 and 4, respectively.

Recent Matches
vs. No. 7 Arizona
-- USC suffered a 3-0 (30-25, 30-15, 30-28) loss to No. 7 Arizona Thursday (Oct. 25) in front of 1633 at the McKale Center. The loss marked the first for the Women of Troy since falling to Wisconsin 3-2 on Sept. 2. Arizona stunned the Trojans with their powerful offense from the start. Unable to find its rhythm on either offense or defense, USC hit .223 with 46 kills, 44 digs and 4.0 blocks in the match. The Wildcats hit a season-best .395 with 58 kills, 60 digs and 6.0 blocks. While Arizona had five players hit above .400, the Women of Troy struggled as all six starters hit below .273. Keao Burdine led the team with 11 kills and Jennifer Pahl led with 4.0 blocks. Lauren Killian and Kelli Lantz rotated into the match and provided the team's strongest performances, hitting at a .357 (7-2-14) and .500 (2-0-4) clip, respectively.

vs. Arizona State -- With a .667 effort by Katie Olsovsky, USC defeated Arizona State 3-0 (30-24, 30-24, 32-30) on Friday, Oct. 26, in front of 1561 at ASU's Wells Fargo Arena. As a team, the Women of Troy posted 56 kills off of 132 attacks (.265) in addition to 52 digs and 11.0 team blocks. Arizona State hit .169 with 47 kills, 45 digs and 8.0 blocks. Olsovsky contributed a team-leading 14 kills, .667 attack percentage and four blocks (including two solo blocks) in the three-game match, while Lauren Killian (6 kills, .500) and Jennifer Pahl (5 kills, .556) each added error-free performances. Setter Toni Anderson led the squad in assists (30) and digs (12).

Wildcats Snap USC's 13-Match Win Streak
With a USC loss on Oct. 25, Arizona snapped the Women of Troy's 13-match win streak. Ironically, it was the Wildcats who also put an end to the Trojans' 14-match win streak last season. Both losses took place in Tucson, Ariz., by 3-0 scores. The program win streak record was set during the 1976 through 1978 seasons when the Trojans won 56 straight matches.

Hitting Her Stride
Since Oct. 12 when the Trojans defeated Stanford 3-1, sophomore Katie Olsovsky has averaged a .558 attack percentage in addition to 3.00 kills, 2.23 digs and 1.14 blocks per game. Last season she averaged a .359 attack percentage, 2.73 kills, 0.77 digs and 1.18 blocks per game.

News-N-Notes
USC has lost only 11 games this season *** The Trojans have been swept only once (at Arizona, Oct. 25) and lost only two matches *** USC recorded its lowest point total in a single game against Arizona on Oct. 25 in a 30-15 game two loss *** April Ross has double digit kills in 14 of 17 matches *** Freshman Keao Burdine has posted double digit kills in 13 of 17 matches.

USC Looks To Extend Home Match Win Streak
With its home victory over UCLA on Sept. 21, USC set a new record for consecutive home wins (20)... and it is still growing. To date, the Trojans have won 25 consecutive matches at home, starting with a 3-0 win over Rhode Island on Sept. 6, 2000. USC's previous record was 19 straight home victories set between Sept. 25, 1976, and Oct. 19, 1978.

Washington Connections
First-year Washington head coach Jim McLaughlin is a former USC men's volleyball coach. McLaughlin coached the Trojans from 1990 through 1996 and accumulated a 142-75 (.654) overall record. He led USC to its fourth NCAA title in 1990 and an NCAA runner-up finish in 1991.

USC Blocking Best Since 1997
Over the last five seasons, USC's blocking has steadily improved. In 1997, the Women of Troy finished third in the Pac-10 with an average of 3.29 blocks per game - largely fueled by the efforts of two-time All-American middle blocker Jasmina Marinkovic. After an eighth place finish in 1998, the Trojans' numbers have continued to rise, finishing sixth in 1999 and third in 2000. This season, USC is averaging 2.93 blocks per game and currently ranks second in the Pac-10 and 19th in the nation.

USC Leads NCAA In Assists Thanks To Setting Duo
As of Oct. 22, the Trojans are second in the nation in team assists with a 16.10 assist per game average. Ironically, the Women of Troy don't have a setter ranked in the Top 25 nationally or even among the Top 5 in the Pac-10. This is because USC uses two setters. Running a 6-2 offense, the Trojans boast the talent of both Toni Anderson and Tracy Lindquist. The two see equal time on the court and, while they sacrifice individual accolades, together they lead the nation's No. 5 team. Anderson and Lindquist average 8.60 and 5.91 assists per game, respectively.

USC Still Dominating At The Net
USC has held opponents this season to a .169 average attack percentage. Arizona and Stanford are the only opponents this season to hit above .200 when the Wildcats managed to hit .305 on Sept. 29 and .395 on Oct. 25, while the Cardinal hit .278 on Oct. 12. The Trojans dominate at the net overall by out-hitting opponents .308 to .169 (17.62 to 14.05 kills per game), out-blocking opponents by a 1.20 margin and forcing 7.2 opponent attack errors per game. USC ranks second in the Pac-10 in attack percentage and opponent attack percentage.

**The Trojans lead the Pac-10 in assists (16.07 apg) and kills (17.62 kpg).**

Lexus Gauntlet Challenge
By sweeping the Bruins this season the USC volleyball team earned the Trojans 10 points in the Lexus Gauntlet Challenge between the two crosstown rivals. This unique program will award points for the winner of each Bruin-Trojan head-to-head athletic contest throughout the year and the Lexus Gauntlet trophy will be awarded to the school with the most points at year's end.

**The Trojans' win at Pauley Pavilion was their first since 1998 when USC also earned a five-game victory. This is also the first time the Trojans have swept the Bruins in the regular season since 1998 - a feat which now has only happened five times in program history (2001, 1998, 1997, 1982, 1977).**

More News-N-Notes
The Trojans defeated the Bruins twice this season for the first time since 1998 *** At UCLA (Oct. 19), Nicole Davis tied her career best with 11 digs *** Toni Anderson set a new career high with 54 assists against the Bruins (Oct. 19) *** Katie Olsovsky tied career highs with nine blocks against UCLA (Oct. 19) and 11 digs against Pepperdine (Oct. 16) *** USC has had three 1,000+ crowds this season (vs. UCLA 9/21, vs. Arizona 9/29, vs. Stanford 10/12) *** Katie Olsovsky added another performance to the record books with a career-best .733 (11-0-15) attack effort against Cal (Oct. 13) - that ranks fifth among USC records *** Against Cal (Oct. 13), Nicole Davis added a career-high 11 digs *** Nicole Davis had a career-high seven service aces vs. Stanford (Oct. 12) - the mark ranks fifth among USC records (one ace shy of the mark) *** Kelli Lantz had a career-high six blocks against Washington (Oct. 5) *** The Trojans won 27 consecutive games this season (9/6-10/5) *** Against No. 3 Arizona, five players hit above .400 and the Women of Troy hit .450 as a team *** Alicia Robinson's hitting performance (14-0-20, .700) against the Bruins (Sept. 21) ranks 10th all-time among USC individual match leaders *** Katie Olsovsky collected a career-high nine blocks against UCSB (Sept. 18) and then surpassed a career high with 11 digs against UCLA (Sept. 21).

**Olsovksy is only the third athlete in USC women's volleyball history to earn National Player of the Week honors. The Trojans' first was Jasmina Marinkovic, who was honored the week of Sept. 22, 1997. April Ross received the honor last season for the week of Nov. 13, 2000.**

**Olsovsky Again Named Pac-10 Player of the Week

It is the third weekly honor in Olsovsky's career, USC's 27th such honor all-time.
