Cal Volleyball Loses at Oregon State, 3-0

CORVALLIS, OR - The University of California women's volleyball team (8-13, 3-10) lost to host Oregon State (15-6, 8-4), 3-0 (30-21, 30-22, 30-28) Friday night at Gill Coliseum. The Bears were led by eight kills by junior Reena Pardiwala, seven kills by junior Leah Young and a team-high eight digs by sophomore Jenna Grigsby. Senior setter/outside hitter Candace McNamee had a .455 hitting percentage (five kills, no errors, 11 attempts). OSU outhit Cal, .277 to .151.
In game one, Cal trailed the entire way before falling 30-21. The closest the Bears got was 10-9 on a kill by Pardiwala. Young led Cal with five kills in game one. The Bears trailed the entire way in game two as well. The best Cal could muster was going on a 4-0 run to get within 19-14 on a solo block by Jessica Zatica, a kill by Camille Leffall, a hitting error by OSU and a service ace by Mia Jerkov.
Game three was by far the most competitive with the Beavers squeaking out a 30-28 win. The Bears were down 27-21, but fought down the stretch to make it 27-25 on a kill and a service ace by Pardiwala, a kill by Leffall and an OSU hitting error. Cal was able to get to 28-27 and 29-28 on a pair of Gabrielle Abernathy kills, but a Beaver kill ended the game and the match, 30-28.
Cal will next host UCLA, Thursday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. and USC, Friday, Nov. 9 at 6 p.m. at Haas Pavilion.
