Women's Rowing Takes First at the Head of the Marina

Marina del Rey - The UCLA Women's Rowing team, in their debut as an NCAA sport, captured wins in the Varsity 8 (20:53) and the Novice (A) 8 (24:05) at the Head of the Marina. The Junior Varsity 8 finished in 5th (23:17) and the Novice (B) 8 placed 2nd (24:47) in their respective events.
'I'm very pleased with the development of the team. The Varsity 8 did very well, and we're hoping for a lot more from the JV8,' commented head coach, Amy Fuller.
'The rowers did awesome today. They're exactly where they should be in their training. With a win like this, I'm hoping that they will get pumped up and have confidence for an even bigger race tomorrow (Newport Autumn Rowing Festival), ' stated assistant coach, Guillermo Lemus.
The Head of the Marina, hosted by the California Yacht Club, featured 38 events. The attendance at the Marina del Rey Aquatic Center neared 100, as the turnout for Parent's Day increased the numbers.
Tomorrow - On Sunday, November 4, the Bruin rowers stroke in Newport at the Newport Autumn Rowing Festival. The field of competition includes San Diego State, USD, UCSD, LMU, USC, Stanford, Long Beach State, UCI, and UCSB. The varsity women will race at 8:00 AM, and the novices will commence at 9:30 AM.
