Men's Golfers Lead 49ers Classic by Two Shots

The UCLA men's golf team took a two shot lead after the first round of the Long Beach State 49er Collegiate Classic Thursday at the Industry Hills Zaharias Course.
The Bruins, after posting a first round score of 293, nine-over par, improved by 12 shots and posted a team score of 281, three-under par, in the afternoon round.
UCLA's 36-hole total of 574 leads second place TCU by two shots and third place Toledo by three shots. UC Riverside is fourth at 591, followed by Long Beach State at 594.
Individually for the Bruins, sophomore Roy Moon fired a second round two-under par 69 and is in fifth place at 143. Teammate John Merrick posted an even par score of 71 in the second round and is tied for sixth at 145. Freshman Breene Murphy is tied for 11th at 146 and senior Parker McLachlin is tied for 14th at 147 after firing a four-under par score of 67 in the afternoon round. Junior Sang-Eun Ji is tied for 27th at 149.
Toledo's Allan Murray leads the field by five shots at 134 after posting a score of 64, seven-under par, in the first round. Tyler Mays of Long Beach State is second at 139 and TCU's Bret Guetz and Steve Shuert are tied for third at 142.
Final round action continues Friday.
