Scott Lipsky Advances To Men's Semifinals At National Indoors

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford's lone remaining singles entry- junior Scott Lipsky (Merrick, NY/Bellmore-Kennedy HS)- won his first two consolation singles matches Friday afternoon, advancing to a semifinal match on Saturday at the 2001 Omni Hotels National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships.
Lipsky edged Indiana State's Vedron Vidovic in the first round of the consolation singles draw earlier today 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (4). The Cardinal netter followed that victory up with another three-set triumph, besting Jonathan Chu of Harvard 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (13) in the quarterfinals. He dropped a 6-4, 6-4 decision to Benjamin Becker of Baylor on Thursday afternoon in the main draw.
Lipsky is scheduled to face Mississippi State's Romain Ambert in a semifinal consolation contest on Saturday morning.
The Omni Hotels National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, which is hosted by SMU is the nation's premier collegiate indoor tennis tournament. The event is also the second of three national championship events for college men's tennis this season (the first event - the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Championships - was held last month, and the third event is the season-ending NCAA Championships in May).
