Softball To Host Inaugural Fall Tournament This Weekend

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford softball returns to action this weekend when it hosts the inaugural Stanford Fall Tournament on Nov. 10-11 at Boyd & Jill Smith Family Stadium.
The three team tournament, which includes Sacramento City and Santa Clara, will be the only competition the Cardinal will face prior to its season-opening doubleheader against Santa Clara on Feb. 2. The tournament will follow a pool play format, with each school playing two games on Saturday and Sunday. The two-day schedule is as follows:
Saturday, Nov. 10
Santa Clara vs. Sacramento City- 10 a.m.
Santa Clara vs. Stanford- 12:30 p.m.
Stanford vs. Sacramento City- 3 p.m.
Sunday, Nov. 11
Sacramento City vs. Santa Clara- 10 a.m.
Sacramento City vs. Stanford- 12:30 p.m.
Stanford vs. Santa Clara- 3 p.m.
The Cardinal softball team made its first appearance at the Women's College World Series in 2001, going 2-2 to tie for third nationally. Stanford closed out the season with a school-best 54 wins (54-16-1) and posted a school-record 33 shutouts in 71 games played last season. The Cardinal, ranked No. 3 in the final NFCA/USA Today Poll, tied for third place in the Pac-10 with an 11-10 conference mark and went 4-1 on its way to winning the Stanford Regional- the first ever played on The Farm.
