Men's Cross Country Finishes 11th at NCAA West Regional

TUCSON, Ariz. - The California men's cross country team wrapped up the 2001 season with an 11th place finish at the 20-team NCAA West Regional Saturday at Randolph North Golf Course. The Golden Bears posted 293 points to finish behind 10th place Cal Poly (246).

Stanford won the race with 37 points, ahead of second-place Portland (91) and third-place Oregon (112).

Stanford's Donald Sage won the individual 10k race in 30:43.40, ahead of his teammate Grant Robison (30:50.10).

Senior Corey Creasey paced Cal, placing 43rd in 32:41.00. Carlos Carballo was the next fastest Bear in 56th (33:12.80), followed by Girmay Guangul (58th, 33:18.70).

Other Cal finishers included Jonathan Balzer (71st, 33:51.90), Martin Conrad (77th, 34:03.70), Nick Martin (84th, 34:12.30) and John Collin (114th, 35:37.50).
