The Facts
The fifth-ranked USC women's volleyball team (18-3, 12-2 Pac-10) will play its last two home regular season matches this week when it hosts Oregon State (16-7, 9-5 Pac-10) and Oregon (9-17, 0-14 Pac-10) on Thursday (Nov. 15) and Friday (Nov. 16) at 7 p.m. at the Lyon Center. Both matches this week can be heard live via the internet at www.usctrojans.com. The Women of Troy must win their last four regular season matches in order to maintain the possibility of tying Stanford for the conference title. The Trojans are coming off a 3-0 (30-19, 30-18, 30-23) victory at Cal on Friday (Nov. 9) and 3-1 loss at No. 3 Stanford (26-30, 30-17, 30-19, 18-30) on Saturday (Nov. 10).

The Rankings
USC kept its position in the polls after last week's win over Cal and loss to third-ranked Stanford. The Women of Troy are No. 5 in this week's USA Today/AVCA Coaches poll and the Volleyball magazine poll. Long Beach State and Nebraska, both of whom USC will not face in the regular season, hold onto the No. 1 and 2 spots on the charts, while Stanford and Arizona remain at No. 3 and 4, respectively.

Recent Matches
at Cal
-- USC easily swept the Cal Golden Bears by scores of 30-19, 30-18, 30-23 on Friday (Nov. 9) at Haas Pavilion. With an explosive hitting effort from the entire team, the Trojans had five players hit above .350 for the night. Katie Olsovsky, Lauren Killian and Alicia Robinson were near-perfect, committing no hitting errors and posting a .778 (14-0-18), .429 (6-0-14) and .467 (7-0-15) attack effort, respectively. April Ross led the team in kills with 15, while Olsovsky led in blocks with four. Toni Anderson and Keao Burdine each added three aces apiece. The Bears, who haven't defeated the Women of Troy since 1991, were out-hit (.448 to .205), out-dug (43 to 38) and out-blocked (10 to 6) by USC.

at No. 3 Stanford -- USC dropped a heartbreaker to third-ranked Stanford, 3-1 (30-26, 30-17, 19-30, 30-18), in front of 3,870 at Maples Pavilion on Saturday (Nov. 10). With the win, the Cardinal improves to 23-2 overall and 14-1 in the Pac-10 (the only loss coming to USC on Oct. 12). The Trojans were outdone in nearly every category. USC hit .167 to Stanford's .313 and posted 11.0 team blocks while the Cardinal accounted for 16.0. But the Women of Troy put forth a strong defensive effort in the backrow with 50 digs and gathered five points off of service aces - three coming from DS Nicole Davis.

Pahl Pounds 1,000th Career Kill
Blocker Jennifer Pahl entered last week's contests with 990 career kills at USC and needed just one match to attain her 1,000th. Against the Bears, with a .579 hitting performance and 13 total kills, Pahl pounded her 1,000th kill on point No. 10 of the night. To date, she has collected 1,011 kills with the Women of Troy.

Pahl To Play Last Regular Season Matches At Lyon Center
Senior middle blocker Jennifer Pahl will be honored on Friday, Nov. 16, as she plays in her final regular season home match of her four-year career at USC. The lone senior on this year's roster, Pahl will leave USC as one of its top all-time middle blockers. A Pac-10 All-Freshman selection in 1998, she has earned two All-Pac-10 first team selections (1999 & 2000) and was named an All-American by the AVCA (second team) and Volleyball magazine (honorable mention) last season. Pahl likely will finish her career among the Women of Troy's top 10 record-holders in total blocks (371 to date), block assists (314 to date), blocks per game (1.03 bpg to date) and attack percentage (.351 to date).

Haley En Route To 800 Career Victories
With 791 collegiate career wins to date, head coach Mick Haley is just 9 wins shy of reaching the 800 mark. These career victories include the 251-51 record he garnered while at Kellogg Community College. His overall Division I record is 540-140-1.

Still Hope for Pac-10 Title
Despite the loss at Stanford (Nov. 10), there is still a chance that USC could repeat as conference co-champion. Stanford will face the Arizona schools on the road this week (Nov. 16 & 17) and then return home to host the Sun Devils (a make-up match) on Nov. 24. Should the Cardinal drop a match, and USC wins its last four, the two teams would share the 2001 conference championship.

USC Looks To End Home Schedule With Clean Slate
With wins over Oregon State and Oregon this week, the Women of Troy could record their second-consecutive perfect record at home. A home victory over UCLA on Sept. 21 set a new record for consecutive home wins (20) for the Trojans. To date, USC has won 27 consecutive matches at home, starting with a 3-0 win over Rhode Island on Sept. 6, 2000. USC's previous record was 19 straight home victories set between Sept. 25, 1976, and Oct. 19, 1978.

Olsovsky Making Mark In Record Books
With a .778 attack percentage (14-0-18) against Cal (Nov. 9), sophomore middle blocker Katie Olsovsky added another mark to the USC record books. This time her performance ranks second among USC's top 10. Earlier this season she hit .733 against the Bears on Oct. 13 - a mark which now ranks fifth in the record books. Last season she posted a .688 effort against Oregon which remains 10th on the charts.

News-N-Notes
With a .778 performance at Cal (Nov. 9), Katie Olsovsky now owns three of the top 10 USC individual attack percentages *** USC has lost only 15 games this season and has won 55 *** USC has had three 1,000+ crowds (vs. UCLA 9/21, vs. Arizona 9/29, vs. Stanford 10/12) *** April Ross has contributed double digit kills in 18 of 21 matches.

Oregon Connections
Oregon State head coach Nancy (Hillman) Somera is a former USC player (starting four seasons, 1985-88) and former assistant coach. Somera graduate from USC in 1989 and later earned her master's degree in education in 1994. She joined the Women of Troy coaching staff in 1991 and served as assistant coach to then-head coach Lisa Love for eight seasons. Her husband and current Beaver assistant coach, Ben Somera, was also an assistant for the USC women in the mid 1990s.

Davis Works Her Way Into Starting Lineup
Defensive specialist Nicole Davis has played in every game this season as a rotating substitute for middle blocker Jennifer Pahl in the backrow. With her much-improved defense, Davis has found her way into the starting lineup in the last five matches. With a strong emphasis on serve-receive, head coach Mick Haley moved Davis into the starting rotation. Davis starts each match in the back row and Pahl rotates in, in the front row. Davis leads the team in service aces (0.31 sapg) and averages 2.34 digs per game.

USC Second in NCAA In Assists Thanks To Setting Duo
As of Nov. 5, the Trojans are second in the nation in team assists with a 16.12 assist per game average. Ironically, the Women of Troy don't have a setter ranked in the Top 25 nationally or even among the Top 5 in the Pac-10. This is because USC uses two setters. Running a 6-2 offense, the Trojans boast the talent of both Toni Anderson and Tracy Lindquist. The two see equal time on the court and, while they sacrifice individual accolades, together they lead the nation's No. 5 team. Anderson and Lindquist average 8.49 and 5.96 assists per game, respectively.

USC Still Dominating At The Net
USC has held opponents this season to a .176 average attack percentage. Arizona and Stanford are the only opponents this season to hit above .200 when the Wildcats managed to hit .305 on Sept. 29 and .395 on Oct. 25, while the Cardinal hit .278 on Oct. 12 and .313 on Nov. 10. The Trojans dominate at the net overall by out-hitting opponents .306 to .176 (17.60 to 14.24 kills per game), out-blocking opponents by a 1.06 margin and forcing 7.1 opponent attack errors per game. USC ranks second in the Pac-10 in attack percentage and opponent attack percentage.

**The Trojans lead the Pac-10 in assists (16.12 apg) and kills (17.60 kpg) and rank second nationally in kills per game.**
