Women's Novice Crew Finishes First At Head Of The Red
Nov. 11, 2001
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - Despite wet and windy conditions, the novice women emerged as victors in the Head of the Red Novice 8 Event. Separating themselves from their competition by over six minutes Stanford's eight demonstrated tremendous improvement over last week's regatta in Newport. 'They are are a tall and talented group of athletes who have a great rowing future before them,' comments coach Carrie Davis.
Not to go unnoticed Stanford's novice 4, racing for the first time, showed resilience and true character by continuing to race the 5000 meter course after taking on water due to the high winds. Their third place finish suggests even better races are ahead.
'This is a great way to conclude our fall rowing season. With high spirits and a taste of successful competition we leave the portion of our season that focuses on introductions and enter a time centered around improving our fitness and overall strength,' states Coach Davis. From now until January the group will erg, weight lift, and condition in preparation for the challenging spring races ahead.
