Nov. 14, 2001
Stanford, Calif. - Kyle Gentry (Carmel, CA) and Scott MacDonald (Playa Del Rey, CA) have signed letters of intent to study and compete at Stanford University next fall announced head men's golf coach Jeff Mitchell today.
'Both of these players will have an immediate impact on the Stanford men's golf team,' said Mitchell. 'They are highly competitive and great young men. We are excited that they are joining the Cardinal family.'
Kyle Gentry is the reigning Northern California High School Champion and the Future Collegian's World Tour National Champion. He was an Honorable Mention AJGA All-American and finished second and ninth in the AJGA Ping Phoenix the past two years and third in the AJGA Clubcorp. In the AJGA Legendary Headwear in San Diego, Gentry finished second. With numerous top finishes, he is no stranger to playing at a national level.
Scott MacDonald was one of only 10 junior golfers honored as an AJGA Compaq Scholastic All-American. An accomplished golfer on the links, he was the Los Angeles Junior Champion. With a sixth place finish in the AJGA Ashworth and a seventh place finish in San Diego, Scott is comfortable playing in highly competitive tournaments.
