Wrestling To Compete At Southern Oregon Open

Nov. 14, 2001

The University of Oregon wrestling team will compete at the annual Southern Oregon Open this Saturday. The Ducks, who are unranked by Intermat this week, have 13 wrestlers competing, while nine wrestlers on the Oregon roster will compete unattached. The unattached wrestlers can compete and not affect their redshirt season.

Four Oregon wrestlers are ranked by Intermat this week - No. 9 Shaun Williams (125), No. 10 Eric Webb (Heavyweight), No. 14 Eugene Harris (165) and No. 20 Brian Watson (141). Williams, Webb and Watson are all 2-0 after the Ducks' duals with Stanford and Davis last week, while Harris finished 1-1.

Last season, Oregon picked up four championships, including titles by Williams, Watson and junior Tony Overstake, who will all return this season to try and claim their second-straight championship.

There will be 16 teams competing this season. Only one other Pac-10 school (Oregon State) will be there.
