Volleyball's Paige Benjamin Earns Verizon Academic All-District Honors

SEATTLE - University of Washington junior outside hitter Paige Benjamin (Redmond, Wash.) has been named to the 2001 Verizon Academic All-District VIII women's volleyball second team. The team is chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) from Division I volleyball teams in California, Hawaii, Alaska, British Columbia, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada and Utah.
Benjamin, who owns a 3.88 cumulative grade-point average in accounting, is second on the team in kills per game (2.93) and blocks per game (0.94), while playing in all of the Huskies' 26 matches this season. Benjamin also was named to the second team a year ago, and is among nine Pac-10 players honored in 2001.
Benjamin was joined on the second team by five other players including: Tayyiba Haneef (Long Beach State), Tanya McArthur Birch (Utah State), Stephanie Metcalf (Weber State), Carly O'Halloran (Cal Poly) and Nina Puikkonen (BYU).
Six players also were chosen for both the all-district first and third teams. The first team members will advance to the national ballot to be announced on Monday, December 10.
