Nov. 16, 2001
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Christine Lamun and Angela Morales have signed national letters of intent to attend Oregon State University and compete for the gymnastics team, coach Tanya Chaplin announced Friday.
'I'm thrilled to announce the signing of two quality student-athletes, Chrissy Lamun and Angela Morales. I'm very pleased with the outcome of our recruiting this year,' Chaplin said. 'I was instantly impressed with both Chrissy and Angela as soon as I met them, not only by their athletic talent, but by the strength of character that each of them possess. They will make a tremendous impact on our program, in the classroom and on the competition floor.'
Lamun (Reno, Nev./McQueen High School) was the 2000 Junior Olympic national champion on beam, and she took fourth on floor at the 2001 national competition, where she placed eighth in the all-around. The 5-5 Lamun, who trains at Flips USA with coaches Neil and Patty Jo Resnick, also won the all-around at both the 2001 USAG regional championships and the USAG Nevada state championships. She also won the beam title at the state meet and took top honors on floor at regionals.
Lamun was recruited by more than 15 schools and selected Oregon State over Washington, California and Arkansas.
Morales (Tucson, Ariz./Canyon Del Oro High School) earned a spot on the USAG national team after placing fourth in the all-around at the 2001 Junior Olympic national competition. She took fourth on vault at J.O. Nationals in 2000 and 2001 and placed fifth on floor in 2001. She won the vault title at the regional championship and the Arizona state meet in 1998, 1999 and 2000. The 5-0 Morales is coached by Gina Mueller-Martin at Gymnastics World.
Morales was recruited by more than 10 schools and chose Oregon State over Arizona State, Iowa State and Oklahoma.
