COUGARS OPEN SEASON: After doubling its win total of six in 1999-2000 to 12 last season, the Washington State men's basketball program is looking for more as it opens its 101st season of play.
Three players who earned Pacific-10 honors return, including 2001 Newcomer of the Year J Locklier (Rock Hill, S.C.). Sophomore Marcus Moore (Inglewood, Calif.), a 2001 Pacific-10 All-Freshman Team selection is back to run the offense and senior Mike Bush (Riverside, Calif.) will dress tonight, just three days after playing wide receiver for the Cougar football team in the Apple Cup. Bush earned 2001 All-Pacific-10 Honorable Mention honors last season.
Tonight's game will be the first of nine non-conference contests for the Cougars and the only time WSU will play in the Spokane Arena this season.
Records: Colorado State enters the game with a 1-0 mark after defeating Montana Tech 80-50 in Fort Collins, Colo., last Saturday. Washington State opens its season tonight against the Rams in the Cougars only Spokane Arena appearance this season.
Scouting Colorado State: Four players scored in double figures for the Rams in their win over Montana Tech. CSU shot 58 percent from the field and was led by 12 points each from Andy Birley and Brian Greene.
WSU-CSU Series: Colorado State has won six of the previous seven meetings, including a 78-64win Nov. 25, 2000 in the Spokane Arena.
In that game, Washington State was led by 17 points and six rebounds from Eddie Miller.
