Nov. 21, 2001
LOS ANGELES - The UCLA women's volleyball team has signed two student-athletes to National Letters of Intent, head coach Andy Banachowski announced today. Nancy Barba and Haley Jorgensborg will join the Bruins as freshmen for the 2002 season.
Nancy Barba (Austin, TX/Westwood HS) is a 6-1 middle blocker, who has played her club volleyball for Austin Juniors. Barba is an All-State player who is an honor student with a 4.00 GPA.
'Nancy has good leaping ability, and the instincts of an outstanding middle blocker,' said Banachowski.
Haley Jorgensborg (Pacific Palisades, CA/Marymount HS) is a 5-11 left-handed player who is a setter and outside hitter in a 6-2 offense at Pacific Palisades. Jorgensborg, a club volleyball teammate of current Bruin freshman Chrissie Zartman while playing with Spoilers, is a three-time All-CIF selection. She has earned multiple All-Tournament honors, including the Torrey Pines tournament earlier this year. Jorgensborg's high school team won the CIF tournament
'We are happy to have a local player join the program,' said Banachowski. 'Having a left-handed setter with a good knowledge of the game will bring a nice dimension to our offense.'
