101ST SEASON: The Cougars 2001-02 campaign is the 101st in WSU men's basketball history...the Cougars played their first game December 7, 1901 against the Spokane YMCA in Spokane...the game resulted in a 31-0 loss...the only other game during that first season was also against the Spokane YMCA, a 24-16 setback February 17, 1902 in Pullman...The following season, WSU earned its first win in school history with an 18-13 triumph over the Spokane YMCA in the season opener, December 13, 1902 in Pullman.
PRAIRIE VIEW A&M PREVIEW: The Panthers are 1-3 this season after losing two out of three at the BCA Invitational in Raleigh, N.C., last weekend and dropping their home opener 77-76 to Huston-Tilloston, Tuesday...Gregory Burks leads the team in scoring with 14.8 points per game and is one of three PVAM players averaging double figures in that category.
NOTES FROM THE COLORADO STATE GAME: The Cougars bench scored 28 percent of WSU's points led by 12 from senior Mike Bush (Riverside, Calif.)...junior Justin Lyman (Missouri City, Texas) led all scorers with 17 in his first appearance as a Cougar...new players accounted for 35 percent of the WSU scoring and 26 percent of the minutes...the bench played 48 minutes with Bush's 21 leading the way...the loss broke a 13-game WSU winning streak I home openers...prior to Tuesday, the last time the Cougars lost their home opener was the 1987-88 season when BYU knocked them off 60-54.
