Fourth-Ranked Volleyball Sweeps Denver in Thanksgiving Tournament Opener

TUCSON, Ariz. - The fourth-ranked Arizona volleyball team had little trouble in its opening match of the Four Points University Plaza Thanksgiving Tournament, defeating Denver, 3-0. The victory moves the Wildcats (20-4 overall) on to the championship match of the tournament tomorrow against UC Santa Barbara at noon.
Offensively, the Wildcats blistered the floor of the McKale Center with a school record .537 hitting percentage. Arizona committed only eight errors on 82 swings, while smacking down 52 kills in the win. Defensively, Arizona forced the Pioneer offense into a-.012 hitting percentage and doubled Denver up in digs, 36-to-18.
Individually, Lisa Rutledge and Stefani Saragosa led the way for the Cats. Rutledge tallied a match-high 12 kills and Saragosa chipped in with 10 kills on .600 hitting. Setter Dana Burkholder dished out 36 assists on the night.
The Wildcats, who have won 20 matches in a season now for six straight years, will face the 23rd-ranked Gauchos who defeated San Diego State, 3-0, earlier in the evening.
