Cal Volleyball Falls to Arizona State, 3-2, to End 2001 Season

BERKELEY, CA - The University of California women's volleyball team (10-18, 3-15) lost to Arizona State (10-16, 5-13), 3-2 (30-28, 25-30, 30-23, 23-30, 15-10) Sunday afternoon at Haas Pavilion to conclude the 2001 season. Cal lost a tough five-game match after winning games two and four, but falling 15-10 in the fifth and deciding game. Junior Leah Young and freshman Camille Leffall led the Bears with 15 kills apiece and junior Reena Pardiwala added 12 kills and a career-high 24 digs.
Young (.368), Leffall (.600) and Pardiwala (.455) also recorded impressive hitting percentages. Mandy Stephens led ASU with 19 kills.
Cal's senior setter/outside hitter Candace McNamee played in her final match of a fine college career, recording 56 assists and two service aces. McNamee concluded her time with the Bears playing in 110 match and 375 games. She is now third on Cal's all-time assist list (3,622), seventh on Cal's all-time service ace list (101) and ninth on Cal's all-time total block list (236).
