No. 3 Women's Volleyball Hosts NCAA First and Second Rounds

Stanford, Calif. - The third-ranked Stanford women's volleyball team (27-2, 17-1 Pac-10) will host No. 22 Santa Clara, Nevada and San Jose State in the first and second rounds of the 2001 Division I Women's Volleyball Championships. The Cardinal are making their 21st consecutive NCAA postseason appearance and are one of only four teams to have competed in every NCAA Championship.
'We're very excited to be hosting the first and second rounds at Stanford,' said Cardinal head coach John Dunning. 'It always gives you an advantage to play at home. We're really proud that all the hard work we put in this season has earned us the right to be one of the top seeds.
'It's really going to be a great tournament,' he continued. 'There's good balance throughout the bracket.'
The Cardinal received an automatic bid to the tournament as the Pac-10 Conference Champions.
Stanford, the No. 3-seed overall, will face Nevada on Friday, November 30 at approximately 7:30 p.m. in the first round while No. 22 Santa Clara will take on San Jose State on Friday, November 30 at 5 p.m. The winners of the two matches will meet in the second round on Saturday, December 1 at 7 p.m. with the winner advancing to regionals. All matches will take place in Maples Pavilion on the campus of Stanford University.
The Cardinal are one of six Pac-10 teams to make the 64-team bracket (Stanford, Southern California, Arizona, UCLA, Oregon State and Washington State).
