Husky Women Bury Broncos in 99-50 Win
Nov. 27, 2001
Junior Loree Payne tonight hit four three-pointers and Washington's women's basketball team held Boise State to just15 second-half points in a 99-50 win at Bank of America Arena.
The Huskies (3-2) led by as many as 16 points at the 7:25 mark of the first half, but allowed the Broncos (1-3) to close within seven, to 42-35, at halftime. Washington buried the Broncos, however, with a 38-6 run over the first 12:28 of the second half, and outscored Boise State 57-15 after the break to seal the win.
Junior Emily Autrey, who led the Huskies in scoring in each of the two games of the Seattle Times Husky Classic, tallied her third-career double-double with 16 points and a career-best 12 rebounds. Payne was the team's high scorer with 23, her best since the 1999-2000 season, while Mandy Welch and Crista Peterson each had 11 for the Broncos.
'Tonight, we accomplished what we have been working so hard on in practice,' said head coach June Daugherty. 'Defensively, I was very proud of our team, and offensively, our players were pretty much on.'
The 49-point win is the largest in Daugherty's six-year tenure at Washington, and the highest margin of victory for the Huskies since a 105-47 win over Virginia Tech on Nov. 26, 1993.
Washington continues the season with a Bay Area road trip this weekend, facing St. Mary's on Friday and the University of San Francisco on Sunday.
