Lauren Fleshman Named Finalist For Cross Country Honda Award

Stanford, Calif. - Stanford junior cross country student-athlete Lauren Fleshman has been named one of four finalists for the prestigious Honda Award in cross country. The winner of the nationwide balloting will become a nominee for the Honda-Broderick Cup, which is awarded annually to the nation's outstanding collegiate woman athlete of the year at the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year Banquet to be held June 17, 2002, in Dallas during the NACDA convention.
Fleshman, a Human Biology major, capped an outstanding cross country season with a third-place finish at the NCAA Championships on November 19. She also finished second at the NCAA West Regional and won the Pac-10 Championships, defeating future 2001 NCAA champion and fellow Honda Award nominee Tara Chaplin of Arizona.
Renee Metivier (Georgia Tech) and Kristin Price (North Carolina State) join Fleshman and Chaplin to round out the nominees.
