Dec. 2, 2001

USC junior Erik Vendt became the third Trojan to win a title at the 2001 Texas Invitational when he won the 400y IM on Saturday in the three-day meet in Austin, Tex.

Overall, the USC men finished fifth at the meet that ended on Sunday while the women took sixth. Texas finished as the top scorer for both men and women.

Vendt won the 400y IM in 3:48.45, by far a season's best. Vendt also finished second in the 500y free on Friday.

She also took third in the 200y fly in 1:56.45, less than a second and a half off of her USC record of 1:55.08. Both times are NCAA automatic qualifiers. She was also eighth in the 100y breast in 1:03.37.

Her prelim time of 1:59.41 in the 200y back is a USC best. All three of her times (including the prelim in the 200y back) are NCAA consideration times.
