Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- STANFORD sophomore forward Nicole Powell has been named the Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Nov. 26-Dec. 2, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Powell, from Phoenix, Ariz., averaged 21.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 6.3 assists as No. 7 Stanford improved to 8-0 with wins over West Coast Conference opponents San Francisco, Pepperdine and Santa Clara. On the week, Powell shot 54.5 percent from the field (18-of-33), 50.0 percent from three-point range (6-of-12) and was near-perfect from the foul line (21-of-22, .954).
Powell opened the week with 14 points, seven rebounds and six assists in a 103-72 home win over San Francisco Nov. 28. In the 75-63 win at Pepperdine Nov. 30, she notched 20 points, 11 rebounds and three assists. She went 10-of-10 from the foul line against the Waves to tie the Pac-10 and Stanford single-game free throw percentage record. Against Santa Clara Dec. 2, Powell recorded the third triple-double of her career, her second of the season and the fifth in Stanford history. She posted 29 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists against the Broncos while playing just 27 minutes.
Powell is the only player in both Pac-10 and Stanford history to record more than one career triple-double. She has posted one-third of the triple-doubles (3 of 9) in Pac-10 history. She leads the Conference in rebounding (9.6 avg.) and ranks second in assists (5.25 avg.). She is averaging 16.6 points per game, seventh in the league, while her three-point percentage (.469) ranks sixth. She has registered two double-doubles and two triple-doubles in Stanford's eight games this season.
The Player of the Week honor is the second of Powell's career and the 42nd all-time selection for Stanford.
