Women's Basketball Travels To San Diego, Hosts Colorado

Bruins At San Diego Wednesday - The Bruins (3-2) will travel south on the 405 Freeway to visit San Diego (2-3) on Wednesday, Dec. 5. The game will take place at the Jenny Craig Pavilion at 4:00 pm.
San Diego, which went 10-15 a year ago, is led in 2001-02 by junior guard Kerri Nakamoto, who averages 15.8 points per game. Marta Menuez is close behind with a 12.4 average. Melissa Padgett leads the team in rebounding with an average of 6.8. The Toreros have picked up victories over Fordham (73-63) and Pacific (64-63) this year.
Last season, San Diego defeated the Bruins 86-67 in Pauley behind the strength of Amber Jansen's double-double (23 points, 12 rebounds). Michelle Greco led the Bruins with 18 points, while Gennifer Arranaga and Malika Leatham had then-career highs with 13 and 12 points, respectively. The Bruins lead the all-time series with San Diego, 7-1.
UCLA Hosts Colorado In Fox Sports Net Game Saturday - The Bruins will host 14th-ranked (Coaches poll) Colorado (6-2) on Saturday, Dec. 8 in Pauley Pavilion at 1:00 pm. Fox Sports Net will televise the game live.
Colorado enters the week averaging 79.4 points per game. Tara Bjorklund leads the team in scoring with a 15.3 per game average. Mandy Nightingale (13.1) and Jenny Roulier (11.8) are also in double-digits. Bjorklund leads the team in rebounding as well, with an average of seven boards a game. Colorado's only losses have come to ranked teams - an 81-69 defeat at 15th-ranked Colorado State, and a 72-51 loss at third-ranked Vanderbilt. Last season, the Buffaloes finished with a 22-9 record and advanced to the NCAA second round.
Last season, the Bruins were handed an 88-63 loss at Colorado despite four Bruin players scoring in double digits. Michelle Greco led the team with 15 points, and Shalada Allen added a career-best 14. UCLA leads the all-time series with the Buffaloes, 2-1, and won the only previous matchup at Pauley Pavilion in 1983.
Radio/TV - Both games will be broadcast live on the radio on KACD 850am (Thousand Oaks) (new call letters) and KEWS 1350am (Riverside), as well as on the internet at www.uclabruins.com. Saturday's game against Colorado will be televised live by Fox Sports Net.
Charting Greco - Michelle Greco continues to climb UCLA's scoring charts. She moved into 15th place on the all-time school scoring list with her 22 points against BYU and now has 1,158 career points, nine away from 14th-place Jackie Joyner. Greco also moved into fourth place on the UCLA charts for three-point shots made with 76 and three-point shots attempted with 236. Greco is also nearing the Top 10 in career steals, she currently has 207. She set a school record with eight made three-point shots in the game vs. Michigan State. She has recorded 20 or more points in seven of her last eight games and has scored in double figures in the last 29 games in a row.
Utah Downs UCLA In Salt Lake City - Utah ran out to a 16-1 lead and never looked back in a 89-42 Bruin loss. The Utes shot 52 percent from the field, including 64 percent from beyond the arc. Michelle Greco led the Bruins with 13 points, and Malika Leatham and Shalada Allen each had seven rebounds.
Bruins Use Second Half Surge to Best BYU- UCLA rallied from a deficit of 31-26 at the half to hand BYU a 73-62 defeat. Michelle Greco led all scorers with 22 points, 15 in the second half. The Bruins shot 60% as a team the second half and took its first lead of the stanza at the 4:08 mark on a three-point shot by Natalie Nakase. UCLA hit seven of eight free throws in the final 45 seconds of the game to secure the win. Shalada Allen came off the bench to equal her career highs in both points (14) and rebounds (7).
Multi-Sport Stars Expected to Join Team In December - Two of UCLA's finest athletes are expected to join the Bruin squad in December - three-sport standout Kristee Porter and two-sport athlete Whitney Jones. Porter is a star player on the UCLA women's volleyball team, earning all-district and all-conference honors her first two seasons and All-America honors in 2000. She has set numerous UCLA and Pac-10 records for coach Andy Banachowski. Porter also competes in the triple jump for the UCLA women's track and field team and qualified for the Pac-10 Championships in that event. Jones is a starting midfielder for the highly-ranked UCLA women's soccer team. Porter is currently playing with the volleyball team in the NCAA Regionals, while Jones' soccer season ended this past weekend in the NCAA Quarterfinals.
