Cal Signs Takayama to Letter Of Intent
Dec. 4, 2001
BERKELEY - California women's golf head coach Nancy McDaniel announced today the signing of local product Mika Takayama, one of the nation's top junior golfers, to compete for the Golden Bears beginning with the 2002-03 school year.
'Mika is expected to have an immediate impact at Cal,' said McDaniel. 'She has the tools to step into the top five. With the development of our program on the national level, we are now able to attract some of the best golfers in the country.'
Takayama boasts an American Junior Golf Association average of 74.5. In the past year, she was a medalist at Eagle Ridge for the U.S. Women's Amateur Qualifier, shooting a two-under-par 70. She also was a co-medalist at the Claremont Country Club for the U.S. Junior Girls Qualifier (shot a 74) and made it to the round of 16 at U.S. Junior Girls Nationals.
Takayama is a four-year varsity letterwinner on the Alameda High School boys golf team. She chose Cal over Stanford and San Jose State.
The Cal women's golf team looks to earn consecutive bids to the NCAA Championships this spring.
