Women's Soccer's Marcie Ward and Amy Sauer named to NSCAA/adidas All-America Team

Mission, Kan. - Stanford sophomore Marcie Ward (Alamo, CA) and senior Amy Sauer (Spring, TX) were both selected to National Soccer Coaches Athletic Association (NSCAA)/adidas All-America teams. Ward was named to the second team, while Sauer was selected to the third team.

Ward's selection was the first of her career on the All-America Team. The sophomore was named to the West Region All-America First Team and to the Pac-10 First Team. Ward led the Cardinal with 11 assists and finished the season with 10 goals. She led the Pac-10 in assists (11) and assists per game (0.52). Ward also finished third in the conference with 31 points.

Like Ward, Sauer's selection was the first of her career and also earned First Team West Region All-American honors and First Team Pac-10 accolades. The senior was the anchor of the Cardinal defense which allowed 18 goals, including six shutouts. She played every match of her career and started all but one, holding the all-time school record with 83 matches played. Sauer also tied former Cardinal Jessica Fischer (1992-95) with 82 games started.

The Cardinal finished its 2001 campaign with a 15-4-2 overall record after losing to Texas A&M in the Third Round of the NCAA Women's College Cup.
