Women's Basketball Player of the Week

LOS ANGELES- STANFORD sophomore forward Nicole Powell has been named the Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Dec. 24-31, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Powell, from Phoenix, Ariz., averaged 20.5 points, 11.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists as the sixth-ranked Cardinal (12-1 overall, 4-0 Pac-10) posted home wins over UCLA and USC. She recorded back-to-back double-doubles in the wins, shooting a combined 42.9 percent (12-of-28) from the field and 82.4 percent (14-of-17) from the foul line. Against UCLA, Powell notched 15 points, 13 rebounds, four assists and three steals, connecting on 10 of 12 free throws. In the 78-66 win over USC, she contributed 26 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, shooting 10-of-19 from the floor (.526).
On the season, Powell is averaging 17.9 points, 9.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists. She has six double-doubles on the year.
Stanford's slate features a pair of nonconference road games this week, as the Cardinal travel to Rutgers for a Wednesday night match up and play at Fordham on Saturday.
