UCLA Gymnastics Team Ranked Pre-Season No. 1

Two-time defending NCAA Women's Gymnastics Champions UCLA was voted pre-season No. 1 for the second consecutive year in a pre-season vote by coaches. The Bruins received 29 of 37 first-place votes.

Head coach Valorie Kondos Field, a four-time NACGC Coach of the Year, returns seven All-Americans from last year's championship squad, including 2001 NCAA all-around co-champion Onnie Willis, 2000 U.S. Olympians Jamie Dantzscher and Kristen Maloney and two-time Canadian Olympian Yvonne Tousek.

The Bruins will face 12 of the Top 20 teams in the polls this season, including No. 2 Georgia, No. 4 Alabama, No. 7 Florida, No. 11 LSU and No. 12 Penn State in the season opener on Jan. 11, Ninth-ranked Arizona State is on tap for the Bruins' home opener on Jan. 20. Also on UCLA's schedule are home meets against No. 3 Michigan and No. 15 Minnesota (Mar. 3), No. 8 Stanford (Feb. 10) and No. 10 Oregon State (Feb. 23).
