Jan. 3, 2002
TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State soccer player Stephanie Peel completed her first U-19 National team camp that ended Thursday. The camp, which lasted from December 27-January 3 at the US Olympic Team Training center in Chula Vista, California, consisted of some of the top players from around the country.
'Her freshman season at Arizona State proved she could compete at a youth national level,' said Arizona State head coach Ray Leone. 'We are all proud of Stephanie and that she is also representing Arizona State University. All of her hard work and dedication is paying off.'
Peel, a sophomore forward from Plano, Texas, played in two of the team's four games. The first game was against an all-boy's team, while the other, a 2-1 victory against a combination of women's players that included US National team player Julie Foudy.
Additionally, Arizona State All-American Stacey Tullock was named to the West roster for the Umbro Select All-Star game released recently. The Umbro Select All-Star game highlights the top women's college seniors in the country.
The group of players will be trying to impress the scouts of the WUSA in the run-up to the draft on February 11.
The group will be split into an East and West squad. The week will culminate with an Elite College game on Saturday, February 9 at Lockhart Stadium, home of the MLS Miami Fusion.
