Women's Tennis Ranked No. 1 In The Nation

SKILLMAN, N.J. - The Stanford University women's tennis team will begin the 2002 season ranked #1 in the nation, according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rakings released on Tuesday. The Cardinal men, meanwhile, begin the 2002 season where they finished the 2001 campaign - ranked #2 in the country.

The Stanford women, who won the 2001 NCAA Championship under first year coach Lele Forood, return five of six starters from last year's team. The Cardinal opens its season on Saturday, Jan. 26 against Fresno State at the Taube Family Tennis Center. Stanford will also play host to the 2002 NCAA Women's Tennis Championships in May.

The Cardinal men, who return four starters from a year ago, open its season on Jan. 18-20 at the National Collegiate Tennis Classic in Las Vegas.
